To Bow To Somebody: To Show Respect For Somebody


To bow to somebody: To bend your body forward as a sign of  respect for somebody. This gesture is easily seen in Asian cultures.

Transcription

  • Narrator: Kratos had never been beloved by these gods. He prepared for combat. To his surprise, they bowed to him, a show of respect he had not seen from an immortal in many an age.
Vocabulary
  • A Narrator is "the person who tells, describes or explains a story"
  • In many an age means "for a very long time". This is not a commonly used expression.

To Claim Something: To Say That Something, You Can Not Prove, Is True




To claim something: You claim something that you can not prove when you say that you are responsible for it, able to do it, or that it belongs to you; even though there is no evidence of it.

  • Police Inspector: He has proven to be more than a magician.
  • Prince Leopoldo: Do you claim supernatural power?
  • Eisenheim: Perhaps, I'll make you disappear. 
  • Prince Leopoldo: I want to have an example made of him...
  • Police Inspector: I hereby arrest Eisenheim the illusionist.
 Vocabulary
  • Hereby means "to officially do something because you have legal authorization for it".
